Eligibility Criteria
Over 7,500 students from over 140 countries are selected to attend UWCs each year. And more than 50,000 students from more than 180 countries have studied at UWC schools, colleges and programmes through National Committee selections. In Zambia, an average of 4 - 6 students are selected every year.
Eligibility Criteria
You must meet the criteria to be eligible for a UWC scholarship. Check them out below:
- 16 – 19 years old (must be a maximum of 19 years old as of 1st September, 2024)
- Must be a Zambian citizen. Zambian residents are eligible for select opportunities
- Must have completed Grade 12. Current Grade 11 and 12 students can be accepted in exceptional cases.
- Academic requirements (ECZ Curriculum and GCSE: 6 – 10 points, IGSCE: B+ Average)
- Participation in community projects and extracurricular activities is a plus
UWC Student Criteria
Our students are selected based on their potential to build a better world. We look for merit based achievements in the context of How has this applicant best made use of the opportunities available to them? While a certain level of academic achievement and a working fluency in English is mandatory, we place equal emphasis on the following core UWC qualities:
Intellectual curiosity and motivation
A genuine urge to learn about the world around oneself and the ability to recognise the details and grasp the breadth of issues (for example global and local concerns) involved in any given topic and to analyse them thoroughly.
Active commitment
The ability to develop and readiness to reflect, question and confront one’s own values, to measure one’s behaviour within family and community against one’s values, and to act on one’s own beliefs accordingly and responsibly.
Social competence
The ability and readiness to make contact with other people, to interact respectfully with them, to work together with them in a team and to achieve solutions and has the ability to express oneself adequately in different situations and to different people.
Resilience, personal responsibility and integrity
The ability to look after oneself physically and emotionally during the challenging and transforming experience that a UWC offers the personal motivation to adhere to UWC’s common moral and ethical principles, a sense of humility and an ability to listen and value another person’s opinion and experience.
